Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read Ezekiel 28

Teaching by Rev. William Moody

As the prophesy against Tyre and particularly its king continues, there is without a double meaning in this prophesy in that as well as the king of Tyre, it is also a prophesy about Satan and his fall (v11-19)..

The big problem with both the King of Tyre and Satan was pride. They got so exalted in their own minds they saw themselves as being equal to God or a god (v2, 6). They were so full of themselves, proud of their wisdom and what they had achieved. This warns of the need to have a sober judgment about ourselves and as much as possible to see ourselves as the Lord sees us.

We are given some insight into the great splendour and privilege that the devil enjoyed when he was created (v12-15). In heaven the devil is pictured with the splendour of many precious  and glorious stones (v13).

Satan is described as a cherub (v14), one of the angels who particularly had the responsibility of guarding God’s holy presence. He was blameless and perfect when he was made, but that disappeared as he became unrighteous and turned away from the worship and obedience of the Lord.

As we think of the danger of pride displayed in the nations of Tyre and Sidon, it was after leaders from these nations called King Herod a god that the Lord struck him down as he didn’t rebuke this praise (Acts 12 v20-23). Let’s pray for a great humility before the Lord.
