Ezekiel’s prophesies against the nations that surround Judah, now ends with four chapters of prophesy against Egypt. Egypt’s life and pride was the Nile River. The Lord warns of time when the people of Egypt will be dragged as prisoners away from this great river and be cast into the wilderness (v3-5).

If we put the things of the world before the Lord, He can very easily remove these things from us. Are there things you rely on and put before the Lord in your life? Pray about this.

One of the big issues the Lord had with Egypt was that the people of Judah had relied on it rather than the Lord to deal with their enemies. But Egypt was like a reed staff that when they leant on it for support, it gave way (v6-7). What is happening to Egypt will mean the people of Israel would never rely on it again (v16)..

We see in this chapter though something more important revealed about God’s purposes (v9, 21). The Lord acts in people’s and nation’s lives in order to reveal Himself so that people in turn will trust and follow the Lord. We need to see in what happens around us, as opportunities to know God.
