Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read Ezekiel 30

Teaching by Rev. William Moody

As the prophesy continues against Egypt, Ezekiel is seeking to get across to mighty Egypt how vulnerable it is by comparing it to the once might kingdom of Assyria (v3). Lebanon was renowned for its great cedar trees, and Assyria was like a cedar tree that was much taller and more glorious than all the other trees (v3-9). Assyria was like a great cedar that was well nourished by a river and the birds of the heavens and beasts of the field sheltered under it. Assyria felt it had much to be proud of for being such a vast and glorious kingdom that so many people depended of it for their lives.

The problem though was that Assyria became proud because it saw itself as so much greater than all others (v10). the consequences of this was that the Lord gave it into the hands of others and it fell from its great height (v11-12). On the day it was brought down, there was great mourning (v15).

The message for mighty Egypt was clear, don’t think you in your greatness, that you’re not vulnerable and can’t be brought low. We too need to take this message to heart. Either we’re brought low by grace and enabled to humbly trust in Jesus as our Saviour and Lord, or we will one day be brought low at the judgment. Which is true of you?
