The forces of evil shall be totally destroyed in this final great battle pictured in these chapters (v3-6). In this the holiness of the God, who in great patience had allowed evil to continue until all the chosen would be saved, is now revealed (v7). All of history has been leading up to this great moment, to this final day of judgment (v8).

The way the complete destruction of evil is emphasised, is through God’s people being pictured as using the plunder of weapons as fuel for their fires for seven years (v9-10). This also remind sus that the weapons of evil that are aimed against God’s people now are immense, but in the end they will all be destroyed, every last one of them.

The completeness of the victory over evil is pictured again, this time in the total burial of the dead (v11-16) which take seven months. This is then followed by great feasting by God’s people (v17-20). The joy will be immense.

In this final judgment on evil, it is revealed to the nations and to Israel something more of the true nature and righteousness of the Lord, the one true God (v21-24). On that day no atheists will existed, just the enlightened condemned, and the enlightened redeemed.
