Apologies, but we couldn't display this passage from ESV.org. Please read John 5
Teaching by Rev. William Moody
Jesus spoke of an intimate relationship with God as His Father (v18). The Jews were very clear that Jesus by this was claiming to be equal to God, to be one with God. The true Jesus is truly human and truly divine.
Jesus makes it clear about how He has come with the Father’s authority to do the Father’s will and that He is loved by the Father (v19-20). There is no division between what the Father and Son desire but perfect unity between them.
They work together in raising the dead (v21). Jesus has come from the Father to give eternal life to those who believe (v24). They also work together in the judgement (v22-23). The Father gives the Son the honour of this duty.
At the end of the age all who have died will be raised to life (v25-29) to face the final judgment. It will be a time of great division as some receive eternal life and others receive eternal judgment.
There is no division between the will of the Father and of the Son. The Father delights to save equally as the Son does. The Son will judge and condemn equally as the Father desires. In seeing the Son, we see what God the Father is like in His grace and justice.
